The Incredible Dr. Pol ends forever Saturday

July 3, 2024 | updated August 2, 2024

NatGeo Wild’s The Incredible Dr. Pol is ending, cancelled after its 24th season, but will have a series finale first.

The show follows veterinarian Jan Pol who works in rural Michigan with a staff and family members, including his wife Diane and son Charles.

The popularity of the show turned Dr. Pol and their cat Tater into celebrities, and made his memoir, Never Turn Your Back on an Angus Cow: My Life as a Country Vet, a New York Times bestseller.

Dr. Pol now even has a pet care product line that just expanded into Europe.

The reality TV show has been broadcast for almost 13 years, and aired 24 seasons, the last of which ended in March.

Earlier this year, NatGeo broadcast a new show: The Incredible Pol Farm, paired with season 24. I asked Dr. Pol if the new show would replace The Incredible Dr. Pol, and he told me:

“No, no, no. I love doing [The Incredible Dr. Pol] the show because what we hear from people is how they learn how to take care of animals. This is so important!”

Alas, Disney wasn’t as convinced at how important the mission remains, I guess. NatGeo will, however, send the show off with one final episode: “The Incredible Dr. Pol: The Grand Finale,” which will be on NatGeo WILD on Saturday, July 6, at 9 p.m. ET.

If you miss it, you can catch it on Disney+ and Hulu on October 1, 2024. Yes, three months later.

Here’s what will happen during the final episode:

In the series finale of The Incredible Dr. Pol, Dr. Pol, Diane, and Charles share the best moments and personal insights of the incredible 24-season series. It’s a fast-paced trip down memory lane full of lifesaving moments and family milestones. From farm calls to film sets, hold on tight as we pack in all the highs and lows, the blood, sweat, and tears that we’ve shared together for all these years.

Six years ago, I talked with Dr. Pol about the show’s production, and he said they filmed eight months out of the year, taking over a heated garage on the property. Cameras only followed about 10 percent of the animals that came into the clinic.

That exposure to all kinds of animals, both for viewers and the people who care for them, is something Dr. Pol hopes can change the world.

His logo says “Animals Make Better Humans,” and during our interview earlier this year, Dr. Pol told me that:

“Animals teach kids a different thing that we cannot do, and this is so important … It gives them responsibility. It gives them a love of animals. And that makes them better people when they grow up.”

I think it’s fair to say that, for almost 14 years and hundreds of episodes, The Incredible Dr. Pol has taught some of its viewers at least something about caring for animals, and the responsibility that comes along with it.

    • @Jean Dillman, no we don’t either. I told my husband “it’s like losing a family member”. Have a great day be safe.

      • I don’t either! It has been such a bright spot. I believe it would have gone on if Nat Geo had not moved to Disney. Not everyone can afford these “top tier” channels. Yes, it is like losing a family member.

    • @Julie, yes!! Like losing a family member is right!! Maybe one day soon they will bring it back if enough people show their displeasure for it being cancelled. I’m so depressed!!! 😞

    • @Jean Dillman,
Neither do I. My kids got me for my birthday a few years back a Cameo video with Dr and Mrs Pol giving me birthday greetings. I cherish that video.

    • I agree. This is a great show and all the vets were terrific. Please bring this show back. I know he is 80, but his vigor is incredible. Of course if it was his decision I greatly respect that and would certainly understand.

  1. I have loved this so from the very start! Dr. Pol and his entire family and staff feel like family to me. They will be missed greatly! I can’t imagine not seeing them. I’m hoping that The Pol Farm show will continue. At least we can continue to see the family and maybe Dr Pol and Diane from time to time!❤️

    • @Pat Larkin, Nothing can ever take the place of Dr Pol and his staff at his clinic. I was never a big fan of the spin off of The Pol Family Farm and was afraid his show might be cancelled. I am hoping Discovery or another channel picks him up. It would definitely be one of their top rated shows.

    • @Goodforall, I hope both shows are picked up. I learned a lot from both. There are no other shows like the Pols. Yes, other vet shows but NOT the same and even they are not on regularly.

Shame on Disney! This is a huge disappointment! I never tire of this show, and you’re right, we’ve learned so much from Dr Pol. 😢

    • @Louise, Disney itself is becoming a big disappointment. Even here in Florida. Prices at Disney are skyrocketing for everything. Even the Florida Residents Annual passes went from USD $45.00/mo. to over $60.00/mo. In 2 years time (and that is for a 3rd tier pass with blackout dates). Disney is pricing themselves right out of business. The only people who will be able to afford going to Disney will be the Donald Trumps, the Oprah Winfreys, and the Bill Gates of this world and not the little people of the world, like me who have gone to Disney 4 times a year since 1971 and every park each time I went (I think that estimated is around 8,500 Disney parks I have visited. Now not only me but the other millions of other people out there who are making Disney one of the richest companies out there today.

Ok some may say I’m jealous but I am not I thank GOD every morning and every night for all my blessings, every single one of them no matter how big or small.

  4. This has been my favorite show on cable and I am sure millions of dedicated viewers are out raged over this decision to cancel the show. Dr Pol has recently said hes not ready to retire and his show would be at the very top of any network that wanted to pick it up. This just make absoljutely no sense, but neither has most recent decisions Disney has made as they continue to spiral downward.

  5. Dr Pol was a wholesome, informative show. It showed a loving supportive family and community. I really do not care for the multitude of shows that mimic Dr Pol.
I sure hope you do not replace it with another asinine competition or fake redneck show.
    Sad to see it go.

    • @Rebecca Saunders, I totally agree! I can’t believe Disney would cancel such a popular show. Disney owns ABC and look at the junk on that channel. I love the show so much and I am a huge animal lover and have learned so much. What a stupid decision on Disney’s part it makes me so angry.

  9. I really hate Dr Pol is being cancelled. It is a great show showing Dr Pol and his great veterinary skills where he won’t give up like so many other veterinarians. Sad day for all
