South Effingham wrestling, SCPS golf win Team of the Year at Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards

2024 Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards

South Effingham boys wrestling and Savannah Christian girls golf won team of the year honors at the Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards, presented by Georgia Ports, Friday night at the Johnny Mercer Theatre.  

The show was produced with support from Chatham Orthopaedic Associates and WJCL 22 News. 

Other boys team finalists were Bethesda Academy football and Calvary Day football. Other girls team finalists were Richmond Hill track and field and Richmond Hill soccer.  

2024 Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards

The South Effingham Mustangs won the State Dual Meet Tournament for the second straight season and then went on to win the Class 6A Traditional State tournament. The Mustangs had a pair of individual state champs in Eli Wood and heavyweight Ashton Anderson, who won his second straight state crown. Four other Mustang wrestlers earned silver medals with Moose Bringer, Adam Hardeman, Emilio Santana and Gannon White reaching the finals. 

2024 Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards

The Savannah Christian Raiders won their third straight team state championship in dominating fashion as they beat Gordon Lee by 32 strokes at LaFayette Municipal Golf Course. Mary Miller, the senior who has signed to play at Georgia Southern, won the individual title for the second year in a row as she edged teammate Ava Cottis on the first extra hole. Both players had finished regulation in the 36-hole event at even par. Charlotte Goodman and Rylan Hurd are also members of the team that also won the Area title.
