Denise Richards’ Return to the Reality World Might Be Tied to Her Husband’s Finances

Denise Richards is excited to return the reality show landscape with her new E! series, Denise Richards and the Wild Things, also featuring her husband, Aaron Phypers, and her three daughters: Sami, 20, Eloise, 12, and Lola, 9. The announcement was an unexpected move from the 53-year-old actress given her tumultuous history with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but there might be more reasons behind the scenes as to why her entire family is heading back to reality TV.

Richards’ husband of almost six years is dealing with financial issues tied to his frequency medicine healing center, Quantum Epigenetics Consulting, according to In Touch. Phypers took out a $190,000 business loan with $11,000 in interest in 2019. He defaulted on the loan and was sued by the Creditors Adjustment Bureau in 2022, per the court documents, after the pandemic affected his small business. “Those events could be neither anticipated nor controlled, and the effects were beyond the control of the parties and imposed an extreme hardship, expense, or difficulty rendering performance impossible,” Phypers said in his filing.

He was able to make a deal with the Creditors Adjustment Bureau ahead of his January 2024 trial that required him to pay “six consecutive monthly payments of $10k starting in October 2023 and ending in March.” Unfortunately, it seems that he didn’t complete the assignment. According to the debt collection, only $40,000 was paid, and Phypers went into default (again) in February. Now the company is asking the court to enter a judgment of $228,000 against him.

Richards’ new show isn’t expected to debut until 2025, but production should be underway soon. With Phypers’ financial status in question right now, getting the entire family on the payroll might have been one of the reasons she was ready to get back to reality TV. Neither Richards nor Phypers have addressed his debts, she only revealed her excitement in a statement shared by E! “My family and I are thrilled to return home to E! Sami and Lola were just 3 and 4 years old when we first shared our story [in the two-season show, Denise Richards: It’s Complicated] and now we’ve come full circle,” Richards said.

Rachel Smith, EVP, Unscripted Content, Lifestyle and Documentary, NBCUniversal Entertainment, promised in the statement that viewers will see the family’s “beautifully chaotic world” filled with “candor” and “relatability.” It remains to be seen if Phyper’s financial challenges will be covered in the show, but E! is promising that fans will witness what “their famous, loving, and controversial life is like.”
