The Amusement Park

The Amusement Park

Directed by George A. Romero

Recently discovered and restored 46 years after its completion, George A. Romero's The Amusement Park stars MARTIN's Lincoln Maazel as an elderly man who finds himself disoriented and increasingly isolated as the pains, tragedies, and humiliations of aging in America are manifested through roller coasters and chaotic crowds. Commissioned by the Lutheran Society, the film is perhaps Romero’s wildest and most imaginative movie– an allegory about the nightmarish realities of growing older, and an alluring snapshot of the filmmaker’s early artistic capacity and style. The “lost” film was restored in 4k by IndieCollect in New York City.

Rediscovered and restored, this "lost" gem from George A. Romero takes an elderly gentleman to the amusement park for a hellish nightmare.

Cast: Lincoln Maazel

Fantastic. Thank you Shudder.. I've been excited to finally see this after first hearing about it. George had a broader mind than general media release lets on.

Not a horror movie but a morality tale about treatment of the elderly paid for by a local religious group. Good for Romero's estate that this was preserved. I grew up in this area and it was neat to see West View Park in motion as it was before it was abandoned since I had only seen it in photos until now. Without that nostalgia, I probably wouldn't have sat through it all either.

Wtf is this? If you want to watch a film about a group of elderly people at a fairground for the day then good luck, I personally couldn’t get past 10 minutes. Normally I will watch a film just to see how it ends, not this one!

This film has effected me, WAY worse than I had imagined. Its not really a horror film, but its every bit as twisted and cruel. I think its a combination of everything, the degraded visuals, the audio, the general unease around the ageing population.

A little too campy with the amusement park backdrop. If you want to be transported back to the early 70s with a film about falling out of society due to old age, this is for you. I enjoyed it.
