The Sadness

The Sadness

Directed by Rob Jabbaz

When a virus spontaneously mutates, it gives rise to a mind-altering plague. The streets erupt into violence and depravity, as those infected are driven to enact the most cruel and ghastly things they can think of. Murder, torture, rape and mutilation are only the beginning. A young couple is pushed to the limits of sanity as they try to reunite amid the chaos. The age of civility and order is no more. There is only "The Sadness". Note: The Sadness contains graphic and extreme violence/gore, as well as brief strobe effects in the end credits.

In this extreme horror, a young couple try to reunite amid a city ravaged by a plague that turns its victims into deranged, bloodthirsty sadists.

Cast: Regina Lei, Berant Zhu, Tzu-Chiang Wang, Apple Chen, Wei-Hua Lan

To those who believe the infected in this film are zombies; you could not be further from the truth. This film is not needless and pointless over-the-top attempts at schlock cinema. This film is pushing the boundaries of cinema for a reason. It is an exploration of cruelty, violence, and restraint. The infected are unable to restrain their innermost urges which are violent. There is one scene in particular where dialogue shows you an infected that is saying horrible things yet most of what he is saying is what he truly feels. I will say no more to avoid spoilers, but you will know the scene when you encounter it. Please do not boil this movie down to being just about zombies, zombies are not conscious while these infected are completely aware of what they are doing. Believe me. This movie does not have them just biting necks or wrists. This film gave me the same feeling "28 Days Later" did and I believe this is because of the deeper meaning as well as the infected not being limited to limping idiots that can creep up on protagonists.
