Slow, slow, slow start with no real payoff until the 4th episode. Can't decide if it is a romance, horror, steampunk, or gothic morality tale - so by being everything it really doesn't amount to anything. By the time the action picks up - the story stops making any kind of sense. I can see why it was cancelled.

The reviewer S474N was very right on this one. I tried so hard to give this a serious watch and see if it would be decent. As soon as the rooftop fight scene in the very first episode began with it's horrendous edgy early 90's style vampire action choreography and ugly mall replica sword and knife props I literally laughed out loud- not in a good way, kind of more of a mocking way. It fully lost me right there. Really unfortunate. The writing tries to do something unique, but the ideas really come across more like someone's overly ambitious and poorly executed attempt at a Vampire: The Masquerade campaign plot rather than a real series that someone had to greenlight to make. Trope-heavy, and utterly vapid. Ends up being yet another case of trying to innovate on a classic story without having enough of a grasp on the core material and all it's previous iterations to even know how to innovate on it without retreading very predictable territory. You'll only find this mildly entertaining if you can come at it with low standards and the base driving force of wanting to watch some possibly acceptably handsome actor suck neck.

This is a wonderful twist of Stoker's tale. Despite the changes to the original story, it was still good to see most of the main characters involved. My only regret is that the story was just moving closer to the classic take when the season ended!! I sincerely loathe when networks cancel an enthralling show without giving the audience any sort of closure. Even though I'm left swinging in the breeze I still enjoyed watching this series.
