Queer for Fear

Queer for Fear

From executive producers Bryan Fuller (HANNIBAL) and Steak House (THE MUSTANG), QUEER FOR FEAR is a docuseries about the history of the LGBTQ+ community in the horror and thriller genres. QUEER FOR FEAR explores the topic from its literary origins with queer authors Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, and Oscar Wilde to Universal Monsters and Hitchcock; from the "lavender scare" alien invasion films of the mid-20th century to the unabating dangerous queer women inspired by Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla. QUEER FOR FEAR re-examines genre stories through a queer lens, seeing them not as violent, murderous narratives, but as tales of survival that resonate thematically with queer audiences everywhere. A SHUDDER ORIGINAL SERIES.

I require more seasons to survive. 💀 Seriously though, I adored this in its entirety and will absolutely watch again with friends as many times as I need to. I love talking about and researching topics like this and watching it was even better than I thought it would be.

This series is a baseline understanding of how queer themes have shaped horror since its beginning. Many people choose to ignore that the things they love in this world are created and originated from a lot of diverse and marginalized sources. This series could expand so much with more content, especially if they got into newer novels with queer themes as well as newer movies. This would also make a wonderful long form documentary.
