In 1975, Ryan's Hope debuted on ABC. Created by Claire Labine and Paul Avila Mayer, the series told the story of Johnny and Maeve Ryan, a working- class Irish-American couple with five children — Frank, Cathleen, Mary, Pat and Siobhan — who ran a bar in New York City across from a hospital. While it was never a ratings powerhouse, the soap was critically acclaimed for its emotionally rich, topical themes and poignant dialogue. The soap was named Outstanding Daytime Drama at the Daytime Emmys in 1977 and 1979 and netted Outstanding Writing honors in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1983 and 1984. The show was canceled in 1989.

in 2017, General Hospital's Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) and Ned (Wally Kurth) officially became Mr. and Mrs. Quartermaine. Shooting the ceremony was a pinch-me moment for LoCicero, who grew up watching the show. But she also got a bad case of the giggles during the scenes, she confessed to Soap Opera Digest in 2017, explaining, "The justice of the peace kept saying Olivia’s name wrong: 'Olivia Maria Falconeti.” By the third or fourth time, I mean, I was already crying just from the walk down the aisle, but the tears that you saw when I was standing at the altar were from laughing. It’s not like saying someone’s name wrong is that funny, it was just that it happened again and again."
