With a Donald Trump victory, no pause in attacks on right to an abortion | Letters

The GOP platform on abortion is smoke and mirrors. The only mention of abortion is opposition to late-term abortion, something no one supports. But there is a clear reference to the Dobbs decision that stripped protections away from women wishing to exercise their right to abortion.

The platform celebrates that after 51 years, the Roe decision no longer stands and the constitutionally guaranteed right to life afforded even to a fetus can be enforced in any state that passes legislation to do so. This in no way tempers language on abortion; it makes abortion an act against the life of another. And Republicans in their platform take credit for this.

If Trump is elected, there will be no pause in the relentless attack on a woman’s right to an abortion when one is wanted or, more importantly, when one is needed to protect a woman’s own right to life.
