Heartstopper star Kit Connor opened up about what it's been like for him after coming out as bisexual. The 19-year-old initially posted about it in November 2022 after people on social media accused him of "queerbaiting."

“I’m bi. Congrats for forcing an 18-year-old to out himself. I think some of you missed the point of the show. Bye," Connor wrote on Twitter at the time.

In an interview with British Vogue, the actor said that the tweet was a sort of build up after the pressure had mounted. “I’m a young man, so I’m already kind of going through certain things, in terms of just life and mental health," he told them.

When asked if he felt forced to come out he said, "I think ‘forced’ isn’t the right word I would use, but I would say that I would have preferred to do it another way,” he explained. “I also don’t know if I would have ever done it. But at the end of the day I don’t regret it. In many ways it was really empowering.” He added that he wasn't ready to talk about it but felt the need to address fans, “I wasn’t angry. I was just slightly disappointed by this reaction.”

Connor also said that the coming out process was natural and that his family was extremely accepting. However, at his all boys school it wasn't the same. “It wasn’t hugely inclusive. It wasn’t really accepted in a lot of ways," he said.

He's also very conscious of the narrative around bisexual people and it's something he's working through. “It’s the experience of maybe you’re too straight to be gay and you’re too gay to be straight," he said.

Kit Connor and Heartstopper will return to Netflix for season 2 on August 2, and everything you need to know is right here.
