Zendaya will not be attending Met Gala 2022, and excuse me, I need a moment alone.

The fashion icon shared the truly regrettable news during an interview with Extra on Wednesday, April 20. Appearing at an FYC Euphoria event in Los Angeles, alongside her very stylish HBO cast members, Zendaya revealed that she's gotta work. Relatable!

When asked whether she would be attending, Zendaya said, “I'm gonna disappoint my fans here, but I will be working. Your girl's gotta work and make some movies.” She did share a sweet message for those attending, though, saying, “I wish everyone the best. I will be playing tennis.”

Although she isn't attending this year, Zendaya did confirm that she'll “be back eventually.” Here's hoping it's super soon, because her past Met Gala outfits were some of our favorites of all time!

As it turns out, Zendaya will truly be embracing her athletic side. As previously reported, she was cast to star in the film Challengers, a romantic drama that takes place in the pro-tennis world. According to a synopsis from Variety, Zendaya will portray player-turned-coach Tashi, who has transformed her husband Art (Mike Faist) into a Grand Slam champion. After a losing streak, Tashi enters him into a “Challenger” event — the lowest pro tournament level — where he must face off against Patrick (Josh O’Connor), Tashi’s former boyfriend and his former best friend.

Unfortunately, Zendaya is officially out of the running for best Met Gala fit, but there's sure to be plenty more stylish celebs attending the fashionable event. Scheduled to take place on May 2, this year's Met Gala will center on the theme “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” which the New York Times has classified as "Guilded Glamour." We can't wait to see how the stars interpret the assignment!
