How does one define a moment, by its span or its significance? In popular culture and world events, the biggest moments act as markers of time, complete with a before and an after.

Before Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift. After the 2016 election. Before Rihanna’s pregnant halftime show. After One Direction’s split. Before Lady Gaga’s meat dress. After the Oscars slap. Before Lemonade. After Roe v. Wade. Before the pandemic. (There is no after yet, we’re still in it.)

Throughout the history of this publication, Teen Vogue has been dedicated to reporting on these pivotal moments — and creating a few of our own. MOMENT by Teen Vogue is a new cover series that captures today’s most exciting and imaginative cultural figures, offering a fresh look at the young people creating their own moments by the sheer power of their creativity and tenacity, and memorializing their impact. After all, the difference between a flash in the pan and lightning in a bottle can just be a matter of perspective.

Welcome to an evolving collection of moments, a candid look at the people driving and influencing our cultures: popular, political, and personal. With our finger firmly on the pulse, we aim to tell new stories and break new ground with those who can’t stop captivating our world.

Our MOMENT launch cover star is one of the most successful members of the new guard of female rap: rapper and singer Coi Leray. The rising star, who is out to make a lasting mark on music and her community, has created a flurry of attention around herself with earworm hits, esteemed cosigns, daring red carpet looks, and high-energy live performances. If her massive success in the past year is anything to judge by, this is clearly Coi Leray’s moment.

Think of MOMENT as a modern cultural yearbook — a signed snapshot of one’s moment in time, a space that invites you to come as you are and revel in the present. All we have in life are these shared moments. We want to make them count.
