"On My Block" Is Getting a Season 3 at Neflix

We’re going back to Freeridge!
On My Block

Note: this post contains spoilers for On My Block season two.

Hold on to your seat (or shall I say silla?) and cue the Jasmine GIFs because On My Block is officially coming back after that cliffhanger. As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the Netflix series has been renewed for a third season — and fans couldn’t be happier.

"The entire On My Block team is beyond thrilled and grateful to continue telling this uniquely fun and important story with a third season," the series’ showrunner and co-creator Lauren Iungerich told THR. News of the confirmation comes exactly a month after the second season’s premiere. Unlike the first two offerings, however, which run for ten episodes each, season three will only consist of eight episodes.

Fans, meanwhile, are pretty excited about the news. “SEASON 3 OF ON MY BLOCK IS COMING AND IM GONNA CRYYYY I CANT WAITTT,” a fan proclaimed after seeing the renewal.“So happy #OnMyBlock is getting a season 3. It's the first show I've seen that uses the words "mocos" and "chonies" and if that's not enough reason to watch it, I don't know what is,” another one added.

Following the second season’s finale, many fans flooded social media with messages of support, and it seems like Netflix actually listened.

“Fam, our mentions will never be the same, #OnMyBlockS3 is officially on the way!” the series’ Twitter account posted, confirming the news with a fun video compilation of pre-announcement, season three fan love.

Though not formally announced, it’s safe to assume Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray and Diego Tinoco — among others — will all be reprising their roles as they all have supported the announcement across social media.

After the mysterious kidnapping of season 2, it’s only natural to wonder how events will pick up, but Iungerich might have already let some details slip. Speaking to TV Guide earlier this month, she revealed they already had “an awesome story planned for Season 3.”

“I like to know where I'm going before I start writing and so I always try to figure out the next season before I start the season I'm working on. I think what we have in store is a fun, surprising reveal in Season 3,” she admitted before adding, “I think you should be as worried as you would be knowing this is a television show and characters we love. I think they're definitely going to be in danger, that's for sure. But it might not be what you think it is.”

A release date has yet to be announced but judging by previous seasons, we’ll most likely have to hold off our intrigue until 2020. Sigh. But hey, all good things take time, right?
