Troye Sivan: singer, IVY Park model, TV star? The Australian singer-songwriter is best known for his music career, but has appeared in a handful of movies and stage productions over the years. Now, Troye is about to re-enter the spotlight as an actor as star of The Idol, the upcoming HBO limited series from Euphoria creator Sam Levinson and The Weeknd.

In a new interview with W Magazine, Troye shared that he is currently filming the series and is excited for this new chapter of his career.

"I’m just having the best time. I think because [filming] has been such a long time and it’s been so consistent I feel like, 'Oh, I could really, really do this,'" said Troy. "Not even from an ability point of view, just from an enjoyment point of view. I’m having such a good time and the quality of every single aspect of a production like this is so inspiring to watch. It’s just a crazy experience, it’s been so fun."

As reported by Deadline, The Idol, which stars The Weeknd (whose real name is Abel Tesfaye), Lily-Rose Depp, and Troye Sivan, is about "a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol." The Weeknd is set to play the cult leader, while Depp will portray the pop idol.

The Idol is co-created by The Weeknd, Sam Levinson, and Reza Fahim, a writer and The Weeknd's producing partner. The Weeknd will be executive producing and co-writing the music industry drama alongside Levinson, who is most known for his HBO hit series Euphoria and Netflix's Malcolm & Marie.

The Idol will also star Booksmart's Nico Haraga and Tyson Ritter of The All-American Rejects. Though Troye's character has not yet been revealed, it has been confirmed that belongs to the main cast.

Troye can also be seen in the upcoming Paramount+ movie Three Months, where he plays a young man named Caleb who is awaiting HIV test results. Troye told W that this pair of new roles have given him more confidence as an actor.

"A lot of it came from a place of insecurity of me being like, 'I don’t know what I’m doing, I’m not a real actor,' and now I’m starting to feel like, No, you know, I’m getting some experience under my belt, I’m clocking up a lot of hours on set," he explained. "I’m paying my dues a little bit and allowing myself to daydream about it and think about it. It feels like the possibilities are endless."

Troye isn't abandoning his music career for The Idol, though. "I think my plan once I finish the show is to get in the studio. I’m itching to make an album. I’ve got a few songs from over the last couple of months when I have been able to get into the studio," he said in the interview. "I really want to make an album, that’s a top priority after The Idol.

Troye's also hoping to take a break with family and friends in Australia, and fit a tour somewhere in that packed schedule. "I don’t really know how I’m going to juggle it all or what’s going to happen, but everything has kind of fallen into place so far."

As The Idol is currently in production, it does not yet have a release date.
