Houston (1) vs Duke (4) betting preview

Houston went into overtime with Texas A&M after the Aggies hit a last-second shot in regulation, but in overtime, Houston came away with the win, 100-95. Three players scored 20+ points, with Emanuel Sharp leading the way with 30 points. J’Wan Roberts also had double-digit points at 13 with eight rebounds. Jamal Shead had 21 points, five rebounds, and ten assists. Houston shot 51.5% from the field, 32.4% from three-point range, and held Texas A&M to under 39% from the floor and under 35% from three-point range.

Duke crushed James Madison in the Round of 32. They won 93-55, with four players scoring double-digit points. Jared McCain scored 30 and had five rebounds. Jeremy Roach had 15 points and six assists, and Kyle Filipowski had 14 points, four assists, and five rebounds. Duke shot 52.4% from the floor, 50% from three-point range, and held James Madison to 38% from the floor and 22.2% from beyond the arch.

Houston vs Duke analysis

Houston is the best defensive team in the country in terms of points allowed per game at 57.7, so needless to say, allowing 95 to Texas A&M, overtime or not, was something of an anomaly.

That said, they muscled up offensively and hit triple digits.

Houston’s defense also holds teams to 37.8% from the floor (best in the country) and 30% from three-point range (10th).

Duke holds teams to 43% from the floor, 32.1% from beyond the arch, and allows 66.5 points per game.

As an offense, Duke shoots 38.1% from the three-point range and 48.2% from the floor, and they average nearly 80 points per game.

For Houston, they average 74.1 points per game, shoot 44% from the floor, and 34.9% from three-point range.

Houston vs Duke pick

This is going to be a fascinating matchup. Duke has an offense that can get going at any time, and if they get hot from three-point range, they could win this game. Filipowski will need to step up here and not get in foul trouble. Houston had four key players foul out against Texas A&M, and their defense will be prepared to double-team players with the ball and look to showcase their defensive prowess against one of the more talented teams in the tournament. If Proctor, McCain, and Roach can each score as they did against James Madison, it’ll be scary for Houston, but we don’t want that to happen.

We’ll lean toward the Houston moneyline here. This is going to be a close game.
