Ryan, 49, talked about Season 22 of the televised singing competition, which premieres on ABC on Sunday, February 18, with George Stephanopoulos, 63, Robin Roberts, also 63, and Lara Spencer, 54.

The guest and hosts talked about the humble beginnings of the Idol judges and how tryouts took place across the country in the hometowns of Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan.

After touching upon how long Ryan has hosted the show the conversation naturally led to the TV personality's newest hosting gig, taking over for Pat Sajak, 77, on Wheel of Fortune.

The American Top 40 host revealed, "I'm so excited. I've been watching it for many years like so many people in this country.

"Pat Sajak is such a legend. He makes it look so easy and smooth and seamless, so he's remarkable."

Ryan moved on to his co-host, Vanna White, 66, as he continued, "I've had the chance to start shooting with Vanna for promo [and] she's the most amazing person."

He then added, "I have studied the rulebook, I've been to watch them do the show, and I just can't wait to start."

Ryan admitted he asked both Pat and Vanna, "What's the best part of being on Wheel of Fortune?"

He stated that they both agreed that "it's the contestants every night winning cash and prizes."

Ryan added, "That's what it's all about."

WHEEL-Y EXCITING

On Friday, Ryan and Vanna showcased their sizzling chemistry as they filmed promos in Hawaii for the upcoming, Season 42 of the long-running game show.

The hosts were seen smiling and laughing together while sporting swimwear on Waikiki Beach on the island of Oahu.

Ryan waved at the watching paparazzi as he flaunted his fit physique in a form-fitting black swim shirt and matching trunks.

He paired the sleek waterwear with bright yellow scuba goggles and flippers.

Vanna looked swim-ready as she donned a hot pink, floral-print surf shirt with skintight black shorts.

The pair stood just off the shore in the knee-deep water while filming one of the promos.

Ryan was seen putting his scuba gear to use as he dived into the water as Vanna cheered.

The radio host was seen wearing a loose-fitting aloha shirt, relaxed black trousers, and sandals while he and Vanna were on an outdoor set.

anna continued her beautiful, vibrant look in an orange top and colorful pants.

The co-hosts wore the same outfits as they filmed another promo that showed them walking down the streets of the tropical city.

VANNA'S TURN?

Last month, Pat suggested that iconic letter-turner Vanna take a turn at being the host of Wheel of Fortune when he retires.

Pat joined Vanna at the tail end of the January 29 installment of the game show.

The episode featured a glimpse of Glücksrad, the German iteration of WoF, in which they “do something interesting,” according to Pat.

“The host and the hostess decide who’s going to be at the puzzle board and who is going to be at the wheel,” he explained.

Vanna replied, “And they switch in the middle?”

Pat joked that he and Vanna “should try that.”

“Maybe next season,” he teased, as he’s retiring after the current Season 41, implying his successor would be in for the switcheroo instead.

The change-up seemed to be a joke and likely would not materialize, but if it did, even for an episode or two, it would impact Ryan.
