It contains 755 calories compared with 493 for the McDonald’s favourite, and 694 calories for a Double Big Mac.

The pasta salad, part of M&S’s Viva Summer range, also contains 33g of fat.

A Big Mac contains 24g, while the double version has 38g.

A social media page dedicated to food highlights the cheeseburger salad.

One critic suggests sticking to a hot burger in a bun, writing: “755 calories though. You could have the real thing.”

Another said: “What are they trying to do to this country?” A third added: “Wow. That’s mad isn’t it!” Another foodie said: “Sounds rank.”

M&S has also been given a roasting over its new £6 Posh Egg Mayo and Watercress double sandwich.

One shopper fumed: “£6 for an egg sandwich! The world has gone mad”, while another said: “£6, what the f***. That’s ridiculous.”

A third said: “You could buy a loaf of bread, butter, plus fillings for that much and make many sandwiches.”

A user said: “Add the word ‘posh’ and you can charge what you like lol.”

M&S defended its new offering, saying: “Our food-on-the-move range includes healthy lunch choices across salads, pasta salads and sandwiches which are highlighted by our Eat Well flower on packs."
