Earlier this week, the Daily Mail reported that Meghan Markle was filming her Netflix cooking show on a cannabis farm in Carpinteria, California. Was Meghan embracing the SoCal 420 lifestyle? Could the American Riviera Orchard start growing pot plants? Crazier things have happened!

The British tabloid claimed that Markle was shooting at Farmlane, a farm owned by the Van Wingerden family and the largest marijuana producer in the area. The only problem is that their neighbors think they stink (literally). The Daily Mail reported that Carpinteria residents filed 2,340 odor complaints between 2018 and 2022.

The problem got so bad that residents filed a class-action lawsuit against two other weed farms in the area, claiming that the smell had affected their property value. That is too messy for Markle, a classy woman who just wants to make bespoke jams for her nearest, dearest, and most famous friends. And while it would be fun if she went full Martha Stewart and embraced a weed-adjacent position in the culture, it’s not happening.

“The show is not filmed on or near any cannabis farm,” a source close to the show told “Page Six.” They went on to say that the series is shooting at a “private residence” and that any reports to the contrary are “made-up fodder.”

Damn. Well, it was fun while it lasted. For what it’s worth, a show where Meghan (or Prince Harry, for that matter) smoked weed and hung out on a farm might be the most-watched Netflix show ever. Let’s not pooh-pooh the stinky weed farm too quickly.
