If you thought DIY cereal was wild, may I humbly refer you to Nara Smith’s DIY sunscreen? The queen of posting through it has taken her domesticity to new heights with a casual TikTok chronicling her and husband (also a model) Lucky Blue Smith’s recipe for homemade sunblock. “We’ve been spending a lot of time outside by the pool, and I realized that we ran out of sunscreen,” the influencer and mother of three said in the video. “But I asked Lucky to make me some. We all burn pretty easily.”

Whispering, Smith continues on to narrate an intensive process that includes mixing coconut, beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, and zinc-oxide powder. The final product? “This went on so smooth and didn’t leave a white cast.”

First of all, I have doubts about the number of Americans who have zinc oxide powder collecting dust in their pantries. Second, I have questions about the efficacy of this concoction mixed about by a former male model and also someone named Lucky Blue in earnest. As for the intent, let’s consider our options. Either this woman is trolling us to hell and back, or she is preparing to launch a legitimate beauty line off the sheer shock, envy, and admiration of her hundreds of thousands of followers. Why else would someone spend hours making at-home sunscreen rather than driving ten minutes to the store? Alas, whether in jest or as a grab for a sector of the clean beauty industry, this couple has, as usual, pulled off something I will never attempt in my life. Kudos to them, I guess!
