A WOMAN has been charged over an alleged welfare fraud in Kerry.

She was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged welfare fraud in Tralee.

The woman, in her 30s, was arrested on Friday, July 12 and has been charged for alleged welfare fraud.

She is set to appear before a special sitting of Tralee District Court over her charges this afternoon.

It is unknown at this time what the extent of the welfare fraud is.

The investigations are still ongoing, Gardai reveals.

A spokesperson for Gardai said: "The woman in her 30s, arrested on Friday 12th July 2024 as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged welfare fraud in Tralee, has been charged.

"She is due to appear before a special sitting of Tralee District Court this afternoon Saturday 13th July, 2024 at 1pm.

"Investigations ongoing."

Meanwhile, a man has been charged after €3 million worth of cocaine was seized by the Gardai in Dublin.

€3 million worth of cocaine was discovered in a house by detectives during a search operation in Clondalkin, Dublin 22.

The man in his 30s was arrested on Tuesday, July 9 and remained in custody with one line of inquiry for cops that he had played a role in transporting the drugs.

At the scene of the seizure, Detective Superintendent Tomas Gormley said: "We wish to acknowledge the excellent work conducted by local gardai, who were assisted by colleagues in the Dublin Crime Response Team (DCRT) and National Support Services, in keeping people in the community safe.

"The detrimental impact of the sale and supply of drugs as well as the illegal activities of organised crime groups cannot be underestimated.

"We remain determined to dismantle their presence in the wider Clondalkin and Ballyfermot area."

He was due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court 1 on Thursday morning after being charged with €3 million worth of cocaine.

ANOTHER DRUG BUST IN DUBLIN

Elsewhere, a man in his 20s has been arrested after €6.8million worth of cannabis was seized in the capital.

The discovery was made as part of a joint operation between Revenue’s Customs Service and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.

Around 343kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €6,860,000 was seized in the Dublin area.

A Revenue spokesperson said: “Yesterday, 05/07/2024, as part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers seized approximately 343kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €6,860,000 in the Dublin area.

“The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB).”

The man in his late 20s who was arrested as part of the investigation is currently being detained at a Garda Station in Dublin.
