There have been a number of incidents across the two counties where ATMs were fitted with items known as 'cash trapping' devices, which steal money from bank users when making a withdrawal.

The devices are designed to manipulate the ATM so that no money comes out of the machine and goes through the entire procedure, making users believe that the machine is defective and thieves take the money out of the ATM the moment you leave.

It was reported that approximately €90,000 in cash withdrawals were blocked at serval locations across Dublin and Meath in the past week.

On Friday evening, July 12, Gardai arrested three men, aged in their 20s and 40s, as part of their ongoing investigation into the ATM fraudulent activity.
