On the surface Chris Hemsworth is huge. And that doesn’t just mean his height — 6ft 3in — or his muscles, of which he has plenty. His films have achieved the seventh highest combined box-office figures to date and last week he hosted the A-list event of the year, the Met Gala, with Zendaya. The Australian movie star is cut from old Hollywood cloth, when actors were pin-ups and hunks. At his home in Byron Bay, he rides his horse on the beach. He is rugged and wry. He frequently surfs.

However, dig deeper and the 40-year-old best known for playing Thor in the Marvel movies, as well as James Hunt in the motor racing drama Rush, has lots on his mind. Not only
