HS2
High Speed 2, known as HS2, is a high-speed railway project in the United Kingdom to improve links between cities. It was originally planned to run in a Y-shape from London up to Manchester in the west and Leeds in the east. However, the eastern leg was cut under Boris Johnson in November 2021 and Rishi Sunak scrapped the northern leg beyond the Midlands in October 2023 due to spiralling costs. The remaining line between London and Birmingham is estimated to cost as much as £57 billion and is expected to open between 2029 and 2033.
