Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

this is a must see!
the building itself is incredible from the perspective of organic architecture, in spite of its impressive size, it so harmoniously fits into the landscape.
the building as a whole and every detail make sense, even the path to it (it starts at the bus stop) is created as a personal journey.
come with an open heart...to experience yourself

It’s an ugly building if you think about it. Also had a very uncomfortable experience with an employee here who was rude and didn’t give me time to speak, he was an ignoring me and kept pressing on about the rules here. Do not recommend visiting this place and I hope this employee gets fired in the future.

Impressive is the right word. The new Goetheanum has the feeling of a spiritual fortress. The view from the terrace is beautiful. It is lovely to sit in the garden and relax. Great selection in the book store and lovely organic and biodinamicly produced products in the restaurant. I will come back here many times.

The Goetheanum is a short ride in Tram No 10 from Basel to Dornach. From the railway station you walk up a small hill past beautiful houses till you reach the vicinity of this architectural delight. All around, you see buildings of odd shapes and sizes, using amazing material and providing spaces like ones you would have rarely seen before. A sanctuary for the Anthroposophical Society which had its roots in Adyar near Chennai in India, this was an effort to give a European touch to the philosophy of this society.
Amongst the wonderful structures are the main building and the power plant. The insides of the massive hall are filled with amazing painted ceilings and stained glass. Also worth spending time are the small houses that dot the area- each a unique creation of liberated architecture. Perfect place for an out-of-the-box experience.

A wonderful experience for anyone interested in the work of Rudolph Steiner. Fascinating buildings surround the imposing Goetheanum. Springtime is the time to visit: blossoming trees at the foot of the building and brooding skies frame the building for dramatic photos of the many organic angles and forms. The painted staircases and fascinating stained glass windows, the wonderful library of anthroposophical books, the excellent, spacious lecture halls, the sculpture of the Representation of Man, the many exhibitions make this building a wonderful place to experience.

This is one of the most amazing feats of architecture in the world! Anyone visiting the Basel/Dornach area should definitley visit this place. THe world headquarters for the Anthroposophical Society, conferences, courses and other events are held here year-round. The surrounding neighborhood is also intriguing with it similar architecture and earthy organic feel. The grounds around the Geotheanum are interesting, too. A MUST-SEE while in the area!

Is not a touristic site per se. Apart from the beautiful landscape and the special architecture Dornach has not much to offer. But if you visit the Goetheanum Theather for one of the artistic performances, you are in for a lifetime experience. Absolutely astonishing.

The area around the Goetheanum consists of over 120 "special-architecture" hauses, which make any visit very unique. Some tips:

- When visiting with a car, bring coins - there's no free parking!
- Visit Monday-Wednesdays between 2pm and 2:30pm, this is the time when most rooms are open to the public (certainly you can come earlier and stay longer)
- From Thursday to Sundays the best time is also between 2-2:30pm, however, the exhibition room (small museum) is closed on these days at that time (open 10am-noon)
- Most of the smaller buildings in the area are not open to the public. Still, a stroll around the area is a special experience!

Other things to note:
- When visiting by car, be aware of the many one-way streets in the area
- There's a bus station (no. 66) close by, however, the bus run only about every half hour: check the time table!
- For the most part, you are allowed to take pictures. Not everywhere though: check the signs!

Goetheanum in Dornach is the world centre of antroposophy, invented by Rudolf Steiner. Might be a hit, might be a flop, depends on your taste. Certainly out of the ordinary.
