It is consistently rated as one of the best art museums in the country and we could not disagree with that appraisal. We spent three hours in the museum and saw less than half of the objects on display. The museum itself has no admission charge; special exhibitions were available -- some had admission charges, others did not. There was a parking charge, but we couldn't complain when the building itself was free.
Two exhibits that I particularly wanted to see -- "Monet in Focus" and "Inside the Seven-Jeweled Mountain" -- were free, but I would gladly have paid. The museum has an extensive display of medieval armor which should excite anyone like myself interested in medieval history. The art displayed is wide-ranging and provides an excellent capsule overview of art from many cultures and historical periods.
We live seven hours away by car, but are already planning a return trip when we can stay a full day. Even if we spend a full seven hours there, I suspect we will miss some of this museum's treasures!
