A common theme I have seen when it comes to both Gency and Pharmercy shippers is that more often then not both shippers tend to forget one of the characters flaws. Especially when they are trying to defend their ship. Gency shippers tend to forget Genji's flaws while Pharmercy shippers tend to forget Angela's.
Now before I get into this, this is more of a common thread I have seen and not a dig on how one ship is better then the other. This is honestly a common theme with all Overwatch ships and shippers. In all honesty I could give you in story reasons why both ships work and don't work. This is more on the flaws that shippers often forget when talking about both ships. (Also Pharah is excluded from this since her characters flaws are very much on display and hard to ignore or forget, I love this women but damn)
The thing with Genji is that he and Angela loosing contact is in character for him. One of his biggest character flaws is how he neglects the people around him needs and problems. Yes he's one of the few characters who's gotten therapy, but that doesn't fix all his issues. Especially that one. This is also an issue he is actively trying to fix, he just isn't immediately directing it towards Angela. Even so that is still a flaw that Genji has, one that he's had since before the fight with him and Hanzo. One that's been pointed out multiple times through out the lore.
Next is Angela, she's someone who is implied to have anger issues, has trouble communicating, especially with goodbyes, and is stubborn to the point of being a risk of putting her own beliefs ahead of her job. We see time and time again that she holds grudges, that she often doesn't think about how other people feel when she just ups and leaves, at least not enough to actually try and change that bad habit. She also doesn't tend to give people a chance, Cassidy and Genji being exceptions due to Genji's circumstance and just the fact of how long Angela and Cassidy have known each other. The way she interacts with them is the exception, not the rule. In general she is one of the most hostile characters when it comes to law breaking characters, especially Talon.
In general, these character flaws often go forgotten when talking about Gency and Pharmercy, usually because the people talking about just care about the ship and not the characters, or they are trying to make the ship more palatable. Either way I think it's a shame because it kind of shows that fans aren't prepared for either of these ships as they are not ready to deal with the in character conflict that would arise from these characters.
