Box Office: Despicable Me 2 Comes Out on Top Again

Despite dropping off nearly 50 percent from its opening week, Despicable Me 2 topped the box office for the second week in a row this weekend, narrowly beating out newcomers Grown Ups 2 and Pacific Rim with a $44.7 million haul.

Despite dropping off nearly 50 percent from its opening week, Despicable Me 2topped the box office for the second week in a row this weekend, narrowly beating out newcomers Grown Ups 2 and Pacific Rim with a $44.7 million haul.

The Adam Sandler sequel Grown Ups 2 came in second with $42.5 million, while Guillermo del Toro's monster flick Pacific Rim landed at No. 3 with $38.3 million, Box Office Mojo reports.

Rounding out the top five were The Heat with $14 million and The Lone Ranger, which fell nearly 62 percent to fifth place in its second week, bringing in $11.1 million.

The other animated sequel in the top 10, Monsters University, came in at No. 6 with $10.6 million. Brad Pitt's zombie flick World War Z came in seventh place with $9.4 million, while White House Down fell to eighth place with $6.1 million.

Kevin Hart's surprise stand-up comedy hit, Let Me Explain, held on to its spot in the Top 10, coming in at No. 9 with a $5 million. Closing out the Top 10 was Man of Steel, which earned $4.8 million in its fifth week in theaters.
