Box Office: Elysium Wins the Weekend with a Disappointing Opening

Elysium, the new sci-fi movie starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, nabbed the top spot at the box office over the weekend, bringing in $30.4 million, Box Office Mojo reports. Still, the total was less than recent sci-fi debuts Pacific Rim and Oblivion, and also fell short of director Neill Blomkamp's previous release, 2009's District 9.
