The Originals: Hayley's Funeral Brings More Strife to New Orleans

The Originals tried to pay tribute to Hayley Marshall (Phoebe Tonkin) this week, but as always, there were shenanigans afoot in New Orleans which totally disrupted the mourning process.

In order for Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) to return to the city for her mother's funeral parade, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) had to leave and astral project back in to keep the dark magic still in both of them under control. Unfortunately, a few radicalized vampires -- and the realization that these quick trips they've been taking to visit each other are way more dangerous than they thought -- made that a bit of a struggle.

That old prophecy from Season 1 is rearing its ugly head again, but this time we have a clue as to what it's all about. Thanks to a dusty old book -- dusty old books are seriously clutch on this show -- Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) now knows that the symptoms of the dark magic keeping the Mikaelson's apart (hail, vipers, blood rain, etc.) were all part of a prophecy that specifically foretold the destruction of New Orleans' supernatural community. There aren't many apocalyptic events left on the list to check off before the big one: The Death of All Firstborns.

The Originals: Is Hayley's Death Permanent?!

Seeing as there are quite a few firstborns running around New Orleans, that's maybe a sign that Klaus and his family should stay FAR away.

On the other hand it's hard to ignore that this might be foreshadowing how the tale of New Orleans is going to shake out when The Originals comes to an end. "Destruction" would suck if it were literal, but metaphorically, what if this prophecy was predicting the exodus of all supernatural beings from New Orleans? It would certainly fit in with our theory that the humans might reign supreme when all is said and done.

Meanwhile, Elijah's (Daniel Gillies) return to New Orleans put Antoinette (Jaime Murray) in jeopardy, since an enraged Klaus decided to bite her, poisoning her and leaving her to die. The only way to save her was to agree to get his memories back, even if it would cause him to realize the part he played in the death of the woman he loved. Something went seriously wrong during the spell however, and before Elijah could open that elusive Red Door inside his mind, he was snapped into unconsciousness by a mysterious outside force.

To make matters worse, Klaus suffered that same fate at the end of the episode, and now his and Elijah's consciousnesses are trapped on some other plane. Together. Who thinks this is going to end well?

When all was said and done though, Hayley did get a werewolf funeral to honor her memory, which is somehow even more fitting seeing as that part of her identity was ripped away from her in her final hours. Let's just hope we get to see more of her as all five Mikaelson siblings battle their way through Elijah's mental maze next week!
