If Liza and Josh Are Your Younger OTP, There's Still Hope

Any doubts about the paternity of Clare's (Phoebe Dynevor) unborn child were put to rest in the Season 6 premiere of TV Land's addictive summer series, Younger. Wednesday's episode, titled "Big Day," saw her not only give birth but prove that Josh (Nico Tortorella) is, indeed, the biological father of her baby. The pair will now have to co-parent a newborn daughter together, which won't be a walk in the park, but should be considerably easier now that they're on the same page.

And while Josh might have smoothed things over with Clare, it looks like he'll stir up trouble for Liza (Sutton Foster) and Charles (Peter Hermann), who finally emerged as an official couple. They'll have their own issues to work out, like Charles quitting his job for her and struggling to find new purpose, but their biggest problem just might be Josh.

Ever since breaking up at the end of Season 4, Josh and Liza have remained good friends -- even if they don't spend as much time together -- and have kept any lingering feelings at bay. But if we've learned anything from the show's very first episode, which saw them stumble into each other at a dim Williamsburg bar, it's that they share a special connection that has only grown stronger as the years have passed.

After confirming that Younger's ongoing love triangle isn't dead despite Liza being with Charles, showrunner Darren Star broke down what keeps pulling Liza and Josh together. "[Liza is] definitely with Charles, but Josh is this person in her life that she has this undeniable attraction to," Star told TV Guide. "They're not together, but I feel like the chemistry never goes away. And they're really meaningful in each other's lives. There's always that question of can you stay friends with your ex? And that's something that Liza has to explore this season, and so does Josh."'

This baby will be a game changer, not only for Josh but for his relationship with Liza. As he adjusts to fatherhood, he'll lean on Liza for support, and that quality time together threatens to tear down the walls that have kept them apart for the last two seasons.

"One of the reasons why they didn't stay together is because Liza didn't want to have another child. But now that Josh has this baby, it sort of changes things. Liza can't help but insert herself into Josh's world and she just can't seem to shake him. So, the baby, in a way, connects them again," said Sutton Foster.

"I think there's always hope in the back of his mind [for Josh and Liza to get back together]," Nico Tortorella said. "Even if Liza doesn't mother the baby, Josh will very much so raise this baby in the community of Younger with Aunt Liza."

Sure, Liza may have chosen Charles, but it's clear that she hasn't quite closed the book on Josh just yet, and there's hope in that -- in Josh's mind, anyway.
