The fifth and final season of the family drama begins one year after the Walkers were shaken by a horrific car accident that left Robert in a coma. Now, Kitty (Calista Flockhart) must decide whether to end life support or hold out hope that Robert will awaken. Justin returns home after spending a year in the army; Kevin and Scotty become estranged after their surrogate loses their baby; and Saul deals with being HIV-positive and meets with his former lover who infected him. As for Nora (Sally Field), she begins work as an on-air personality at a radio station and rekindles a relationship with the man (Beau Bridges) she left to marry William Walker.
