Debuting in May of 2021, Hacks tells the story of Deborah Vance, a comedian whose residency in Las Vegas comes under the threat of younger acts. In order to maintain her stronghold over the situation, Deborah’s manager sends his fellow client, comedy writer Ava, to Las Vegas in order to create new material for the show.

What ensues is a love-hate relationship between the young writer and seasoned professional. As viewers may recall, Season 1 concluded with a cliffhanger involving Ava when she receives a call from Jimmy about some comments she made about Deborah behind the comedian’s back.

Downs’ tease of Season 2 doesn’t reveal anything in regards to the loose end, but it does promise plenty of laughs from Stalter who stole the show as Kayla. She’ll surely create more chaos for Jimmy as the show picks back up.

Downs co-created and co-showruns the series with Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky with whom he won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Stay tuned for more teases as Season 2 of Hacks continues to take shape at HBO Max, and catch up with Season 1 by streaming it now.
