‘The Serpent Queen’: First Look at Minnie Driver as Elizabeth I & Samantha Morton in Season 2 (VIDEO)
Queen Elizabeth I comes to call in The Serpent Queen Season 2, and TV Insider has an exclusive first look at Minnie Driver as the infamous Virgin Queen alongside Samantha Morton‘s Catherine de Medici in the edgy Starz drama. Catherine is “willing to do anything” to maintain her power in the teaser above. “How about you?” she asks. The second season of the lavish drama is set to return in Summer 2024.
The Serpent Queen tells the story of Catherine de Medici (Morton) who, against all odds, became one of the most powerful and longest-serving rulers in French history. “The original bad b*tch is back,” the teaser says. And this time, Catherine has a delightfully wicked rival at court in Driver’s Elizabeth.
Joining Morton in the returning cast are Danny Kirrane, Ray Panthaki, Raza Jaffrey, Enzo Cilenti, Amrita Acharia, Ruby Bentall, Beth Goddard, Ludivine Sagnier, Nicholas Burns, and Rupert Everett. Angus Imrie, Emma McDonald, Stanley Morgan, and Philippine Velge are series regulars in Season 2. McDonald plays Rahima in the new episodes, a role previously held by Sennia Nanua.
Joining as recurring cast are Rosalie Craig, Isobel Jesper Jones, Bill Milner, Ashley Thomas, and Alexandre Willaume.
The Serpent Queen is based on the book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda and is created by writer and executive producer Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road, Red Sparrow, The Lone Ranger). The series is executive produced by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games Franchise) and Erwin Stoff (The Matrix, 13 Hours, Edge of Tomorrow). The series is produced for STARZ by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment.
