InterServer doesn’t offer a free trial of its hosting services. However, this seems to be standard among the providers we surveyed, so it’s not really raising a red flag for us.

InterServer ticks the essential boxes with its WordPress hosting packages, including unlimited storage and bandwidth, as well as one-click WordPress installation. However, we were disappointed to see that the standard plan doesn’t come with a free domain name (something that some other providers include).

Domain name protection also costs extra, although this seemed to be the norm among the providers we surveyed. For context, that’s almost three days’ worth of video or 100,000 high-quality photos, so still a lot! However, if it isn’t enough, you’ll have to pay more for a higher-tier plan with more data.

GoDaddy is one of the most expensive providers we surveyed. Is it worth the extra bucks? There are some perks that could make it worthwhile, such as the AI creation tool, which simplifies everything from creating a logo for your website to choosing your business’ domain name.

Another standout feature is the automated malware scans and removal, which help secure your website against viruses and hackers. These scans are run every 24 to 48 hours.

GoDaddy is a big name in WordPress hosting, so it’s no surprise that this provider offers an impressive array of features. For the most basic plan, you get a free domain, free SSL certificate and one website. However, note that storage is limited to 10 GB.

If you’re willing to pay extra, you can get additional storage (up to 30 GB), plus other perks like enhanced security features and faster performance. Ultimate plans even come with search engine optimization (SEO) tools, which you can use to make it easier for your website to be found online.

If there’s an issue, like a security compromise, a backup can help you recover your site. If you opt for TMDHosting, we’d suggest getting a higher-tier plan with backups.

Aside from this gap, TMDHosting covers the essential bases, including features like a free SSL certificate, free domain name and even a free business email.

Like its competitors, TMD guarantees 24/7 live chat support. We were able to access the live chat function from the homepage and were immediately connected with an agent to answer our questions. You even get a Fiverr credit, which you can use to get help with services like logo design or web content writing.

IONOS has a number of features that make it easier to finetune your website, including customizable updates for everything from plugins to themes. If you’re a tech whizz, you’ll benefit from the advanced developer features, like .htaccess (an Apache configuration file) and compatibility with tools like Git (a developer tool).

For the less technically inclined, you can rest easy: IONOS covers the basics of what you want in a WordPress host, including daily backups and unlimited bandwidth. That said, starter plans have a 25 GB storage limit.

DreamHost is one of the few providers that includes daily backups for a low cost, creating a great value-add. If you want this level of security with some other providers, you’ll be stuck paying for a pricier plan.

Functionality 

DreamHost’s starter package includes one website, one free domain and a WordPress website builder, which you can use to easily create your site if you haven’t already (it includes perks like templates and drag-and-drop building). You also get an automated WordPress migration, which is helpful if you’re currently hosting with another provider.

The cheapest bare-bones plan doesn’t include perks like a business email, which you’ll have to pay extra for. You will also have to deal with a storage cap of 50 GB.

DreamHost promises 24/7 support using live chat as well as email support. Unfortunately, when we clicked on the live chat link we found, we were asked to sign into our DreamHost account. It seems only current customers can access support, making it impossible for us to test run.

HostGator is by far the most expensive provider we surveyed, with even the basic plan starting at more than $20 per month. Is it worth it? Honestly, we aren’t sure. For starters, the Baby plan offers only 20 GB of storage, which is less than quite a few other providers we surveyed.

Plus, while the basic plan includes characteristics like unmetered bandwidth and a free email, you can get these features with other providers for far less.

Functionality

HostGator’s functionality delivers what we’d expect from a reputable WordPress hosting service, like one-click WordPress installs. We also like that a CDN is included to ensure fast website loading. Still, we don’t see added functionality that justifies the hefty price tag.

While we like seeing security add-ons like SSL certificates and malware scanning included in the base plan, we don’t love that daily backups (also important for security) are only available for higher-tier plans.

Support

HostGator provides 24/7 live chat support. We gave it a go and were happy to find that we were quickly connected with a live agent. This hosting provider also has phone and email support, which isn’t always a given among the providers we surveyed. Additionally, there’s a comprehensive online knowledge base.

Based on our research, free trials aren’t the norm when it comes to WordPress hosting services. In lieu of a free trial, it’s a good idea to look for a provider that offers a solid money-back guarantee.

InMotion Hosting delivers, promising a 90-day money-back guarantee. That’s a lot better than some other providers we found, which ranged from as little as 72 hours to 30 days.

Value 

InMotion Hosting is one of the pricier providers we surveyed, with even the lowest-tier plans costing more than $13 per month. However, we do think the 90-day money-back guarantee is noteworthy and a value add in its own right.

Overall, you do get good value out of an InMotion Hosting account, with perks like a free domain name and business email (not just one, but 10). These are things you don’t always get with the most cost-efficient plan with other providers.

Even for its base plan, InMotion Hosting has some nice perks that make us think the added cost may be worth it. The cheapest plan offered includes a security suite of hacker and malware protection, SSL certificates, protection against DDoS attacks (which try to disrupt server traffic), automated backups and Monarx Security, which is itself nearly a $20 value.

In addition to a website builder, there are also marketing tools, like customer management tools and free advertising credits, which you can use to promote your business.

Support 

The InMotion support center includes more than 5,000 articles and guides, covering everything from billing FAQs to domain name setup details. There is also a community support forum. Finally, you can connect with human agents using the phone, ticket or live chat. We tried to access the live chat but were asked to provide an account email, so we couldn’t test it out.
