Methodology

Our credit cards team spent hours analyzing hundreds of credit cards. We took a deep dive into the details of each 0% APR business card product. Our analysis, combined with our years of experience covering credit cards, informed us as we developed these credit card rankings. Factors we evaluated when selecting the top 0% APR business cards included:

  • Intro offer length.
  • Inclusion of both balance transfer and purchase APR.
  • Annual fee.
  • Rewards value.
  • Card value after the intro APR expires.

Should you get a 0% APR business credit card?

A 0% APR card with an intro period on purchases can be a great option for any business that needs to buy a big-ticket item and pay it off over time.

However, it’s important to read the fine print and understand what the APR will be after the introductory period ends. If you’re still carrying a balance after the intro period, you’ll likely be paying a high interest rate on the remaining balance. A 0% APR offer is best used when you have a solid plan to pay off a balance before the introductory period ends.

Be aware that generally you’ll need a good credit history to be approved for a business card with a 0% APR offer.

Guide to 0% APR business credit cards

A 0% APR offer can be a great way to finance large business expenses without incurring any interest charges. But, it’s important to understand what that 0% APR means. APR stands for “annual percentage rate” and it refers to the interest rate that is charged on any balance that isn’t paid off in full each month.

With a 0% APR, you won’t pay interest on a balance — so you can pay off large purchases over time without accumulating debt. A 0% APR offer typically lasts anywhere from six months to nearly two years on purchases, balance transfers or both. When that introductory period expires, the card’s standard variable APR will apply to any balance that’s left on the card and any future purchases made.

Many of these cards also come with rewards programs or other benefits that make them even more attractive for business owners looking for financing options and can give you a reason to keep your card even after the 0% APR period ends.

Looking for the best credit card for your personal expenses? Our list of the best credit cards is a great place to start.

When considering a 0% APR business credit card, consider the following card attributes:

  • Any annual fees. You should be able to find multiple 0% APR business credit cards without an annual price tag.
  • A 0% APR on purchases, balance transfers or both. Consider which type of 0% APR offer you want. If you’re looking for a longer runway to pay down some existing debt from another card, a balance transfer offer can help. But if you’re looking for extra time to pay off a big buy, choose a card with a 0% APR offer on purchases. Some cards have 0% APR offers on both, but you should have a primary goal in mind.
  • The length of the 0% APR period. When deciding on a card, you’ll want to pick one with a 0% APR period offering enough time to pay off all or at least most of your balance.
  • The cost of the balance transfer fee. If you’re trying to decide between business cards with similar 0% APR balance transfer intro periods, calculate the cost of the balance transfer fee. Every dollar you pay to transfer a balance diminishes the value of your savings on interest.
  • Useful benefits beyond the introductory APR period. That 0% APR won’t last forever so it makes sense to consider any useful attributes like rewards, cell phone protection, bookkeeping software or travel insurances that make this card worth owning long term.

If you’re looking for a 0% APR offer on a personal card, we’ve got you covered. Here’s our list of the best 0% APR credit cards.

Pros and cons of 0% APR business credit cards

Like any financial product, it’s helpful to consider the pros and cons of 0% APR business credit cards.

Pros

  • The 0% period: A 0% APR offer lets you save money on interest payments during the promotional period, helping you put more toward paying down a big purchase or knocking out existing debt as quickly as possible.
  • Debt consolidation: If you carry a balance on multiple accounts, transferring them all to a business credit card with a balance transfer offer can simplify your payments.
  • No annual fees: All of the best 0% APR business credit cards on our list lack annual fees, so it won’t add a carrying cost to your budget.
  • Many earn rewards: Some of the best 0% APR business cards offer rewards on your spending — a valuable perk on any card, not just ones with a 0% APR offer.

Cons

  • Good credit required: You typically need good to excellent credit to qualify for a business credit card with a 0% APR offer.
  • The 0% APR isn’t forever: The introductory APR will only last for a limited time. Once the promotional period ends, any balance remaining will be subject to your balance transfer card’s ongoing APR.
  • You still have to make minimum payments: That zero doesn’t mean you get to pay zero. You’ll still have to make at least the minimum monthly payments on any balances. And realistically, you should plan to pay more than the minimum in order to pay off the entire amount you owe within the promotional period.
  • You may not get the credit limit you want: If your hope is to make a purchase or balance transfer for a sizable amount, keep in mind that there’s no guarantee you’ll get approved for the credit limit you want on a new card.
  • Balance transfers come with fees: Most cards charge a balance transfer fee between 3% to 5% of each amount you transfer to your new card. That means if you transfer $10,000 to an account with a 5% balance transfer fee, $500 will be added to the amount transferred.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

A 0% purchase APR is good for small businesses that need flexibility to repay their debts. Some credit cards offer up to 15 months of 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers. This can be a great opportunity for cardholders to pay off debt without accruing high amounts of interest.

You don’t necessarily need to have a business credit history to qualify for a business credit card. Most issuers will ask you to personally guarantee the debt on a small business credit card. Some issuers will check your personal credit score to determine your creditworthiness for your business card application.

At the time of writing, there is not a small business credit card on the market offering no interest for 24 months. The longest zero-interest period is offered by the U.S. Bank Business Triple Cash Rewards World Elite Mastercard, which offers 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 15 billing cycles, then a variable APR of 19.24% to 28.24% applies. A 3% balance transfer fee with a $5 minimum applies.
