You might be considering a home warranty to safeguard important home systems and appliances. For a monthly fee, these policies cover repair and replacement costs when items such as refrigerators and AC units break down from normal wear and tear.
Many key home systems break down before hitting the 10 to 15-year mark. HVAC systems typically last just seven to 25 years. The normal lifespan for water heaters is only six to 12 years, and most major appliances today go kaput in under 20 years, according to the experts at the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors.
If your El Paso home contains aging dishwashers, furnaces or other appliances, you'll probably encounter an untimely failure. These top-rated home warranty firms offer robust coverage at fair prices.
Homeowners insurance doesn't cover appliance malfunctions due to normal wear and tear, so having a home warranty can give you an extra buffer against surprises. We've done the research to find what home warranty firms have the best major appliance and system coverage.
Here's our list of the best home warranty companies in El Paso:
Average monthly costs: $22.00 - $80.00

The cost of a home warranty is around the same as the national average, and it largely depends on how often you prefer to make payments. The national average is around $40.91 to $77.05 per month, or $563.62 to $927.43 per year. We calculated the average by requesting hundreds of quotes using 2,000-square-foot, single-family homes across each state the providers service.
Home warranties cover a variety of major systems and home appliances. We'll offer a general overview of the two main coverage categories.
The first category of items a home warranty covers is kitchen appliances and household items. This covers the following: The second category of covered items under a home warranty is major systems. Not every plan covers the same major systems. However, you can find coverage for any of these items:
As with many other service contracts, home warranties won't cover certain appliances or components. These are called exclusions. A common exclusion is breakdowns caused by damage outside normal wear and tear. For example, home warranties will probably not cover an air conditioner breakdown caused by a dirty air filter. This is because replacing the filter is a routine maintenance task. Home warranties also don't cover rust or corrosion damage, improper system or appliance installation, hazardous waste, preexisting conditions, acts of nature and cosmetic damage.
Before purchasing a home warranty coverage plan, we recommend asking providers the following questions.
Determine what appliances and systems you need covered before getting home warranty quotes. This way, you can look for a company that includes them. Some companies separate appliance and system coverage. Companies might also offer additional coverage, like septic tank and central vacuum protection, as add-ons. Consider what supplements you might need and how much they'll add to the cost.
A typical home warranty plan is effective for one year from the coverage effective date, which is 30 days after the initial sign-up date. The 30-day waiting period serves as a way to deter customers from filing claims for preexisting conditions. You may extend the 12-month policy term by purchasing a multiyear plan.
When researching a home warranty company, ask which service contractors it partners with in your area. Many home warranty companies allow you to select your own local contractor if they don’t have an in-network provider near you. The contractor must be licensed and registered in El Paso to obtain repair approval from the home warranty provider. You can verify a contractor's license by searching your local or county government database.
Knowing more about your warranty company's claims process can improve your chances of getting a claim approved. Most companies accept claims through the web or via a 24/7 phone line. Once you file, the company will try to respond within 24 to 48 hours. Filing outside normal business hours may lead to processing delays. If the home warranty company initially approves your claim, they'll match you with a service contractor from their network. The contractor will arrange a meeting with you to inspect and diagnose the problem. Once they get final approval from the warranty company, they'll proceed to make repairs and manage billing on your behalf.
If you need to move, most home warranty contracts feature a clause allowing you to transfer the policy to the new homeowner. Some companies handle the transfer at no charge, though others will charge a transfer fee. Sellers can also purchase special home warranty plans that are readily transferable to prospective buyers. This is a simple way to add appeal to your home to your home in a competitive real estate market and give the buyer additional peace of mind.
Before purchasing a home warranty, research the company's sample contracts and policies. Understanding a provider's terms and conditions can help you decide whether they're a good fit for you. It'll also help you advocate for yourself if you need to file a claim. Pay attention to these key stipulations and clauses:
We review national home warranty providers against our full home warranty methodology. We score warranty providers based on coverage options and limits, price, brand reputation, customer service, extra features and availability.
