We've ranked the top 7 home warranty companies that operate within 50 miles of Shelby. We base our ranking off average customer ratings weighted against the number of reviews. For more information, check out our full methodology.
You might be considering a home warranty to safeguard essential home systems and appliances. For a monthly fee, these policies cover repair and replacement costs when items like refrigerators and AC units break down from normal wear and tear.
Many key home systems break down before hitting the 10 to 15-year mark. HVAC systems typically last just seven to 25 years. The normal lifespan for water heaters is only six to 12 years, and most major appliances today fail after 20 years, say the experts at the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors.
If your Shelby home contains aging dishwashers, furnaces or the like, you'll likely encounter an untimely breakdown. These leading home warranty firms offer robust coverage at a fair price.
Shelby's scorching hot summers make an air conditioner breakdown expensive and even hazardous. You can have extra peace of mind with a home warranty that has major appliance and system coverage. The national providers below offer the best plans and benefits.
Here's our list of the best home warranty companies in Shelby:
Average monthly costs: $22.00 - $80.00
2-10 has three coverage plans with flexible service call fees and perks like appliance color matching. The company also has an "Even If" guarantee that refunds your service call fees if your covered item can't be fixed or replaced.

The cost of a home warranty is in line with the national average, and it largely depends on how often you choose to make payments. The national average is around $40.91 to $77.05 per month, or $563.62 to $927.43 per year. We calculated the average by requesting hundreds of quotes using 2,000-square-foot, single-family homes across each state the providers service.
With a home warranty, you'll have additional coverage for major systems and home appliances. However, it's not a substitute for homeowners insurance, and there are some limitations to coverage. Below, we'll summarize what's generally covered and what's not.
Major appliances form the first category of items that home warranties provide coverage for. This includes the following items: The second category of covered items under a home warranty is major systems. Not every plan covers the same major systems. However, you can find coverage for any of these items:
As with many other service contracts, home warranties won't cover certain appliances or components. These are called exclusions. One thing that home warranties don't cover is damage outside of normal wear and tear. For example, the warranty company could deny a claim for an AC breakdown if a dirty air filter is the cause. This is because replacing the air filter is a part of routine maintenance. Additionally, home warranties won't cover improper system or appliance installation, preexisting conditions, rust or corrosion damage, cosmetic damage, acts of nature and hazardous waste.
We recommend asking each home warranty provider you're considering the following questions about their plans, terms and policies.
Assess your coverage requirements before requesting a quote from a home warranty provider. Once you've determined what items need coverage, confirm that the provider includes them in its packages. Some companies separate systems and appliance coverage into different plans, so ensure you select the accurate one. Also, many home warranty companies offer optional coverage, such as for roof leaks or swimming pools. Consider purchasing add-ons if you need protection for specific items.
Generally, a home warranty plan lasts for 12 months from the coverage effective date, which is 30 days after the initial sign-up date. Home warranty companies put in a 30-day waiting period to prevent customers from filing claims for preexisting conditions. Purchasing a multiyear plan extends protection beyond the standard 12-month term.
When you're researching home warranty providers, be sure to ask about which service contractors they use. Each repair team must follow specific licensing requirements and standards to get repair approval from the warranty company. If there are no partner contractors in your area, the warranty terms might allow you to select your own repair company. You can verify a contractor's license by searching the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors database.
Understanding how a company’s claims process works can be the difference between an approved claim and a denied one. Home warranty providers typically accept claims via their website or a round-the-clock support line. Typical response times are within 24 to 48 hours of filing, though there may be processing delays if you file outside normal business hours. Once you submit your claim, the warranty company will review it and connect you to an in-network service contractor. The contractor will arrange a visit to diagnose the problem, and then get final approval from the warranty company for any required repair work.
If you're selling your home, you may be able to transfer your policy to the new homeowner. Some companies oversee the transfer without cost, while others charge a transfer fee. Home warranty coverage can be reassuring to new homebuyers. Some companies offer sellers special coverage plans that are readily transferable to buyers.
To finalize your research, we recommend reading the home warranty provider’s fine print and sample contract prior to purchasing a plan. Knowing the company’s terms and conditions can help you determine whether it’s the right one for your needs. It'll also help you stand up for your rights if you need to file a claim. Below are several terms you should look for while reviewing the contract:
We review national home warranty providers against our full home warranty methodology. We score warranty providers based on coverage options and limits, price, brand reputation, customer service, extra features and availability.
