What we like
The ultimate feature that sets Loewen apart from most window manufacturers is that it’s exclusively high-end. Expert artisans handcraft every part of a Loewen window; no assembly lines exist in a Loewen manufacturing facility.
Loewen makes its windows from premium wood species, including coastal Douglas fir, Honduran mahogany and white oak, all of which are stronger and longer-lasting than the typical pine many window companies use. Plus, you won’t find any veneers on a Loewen window — the wood on the surface is the same as what’s under the surface.
Loewen finishes its windows with your choice of aluminum-, copper- or bronze-clad hardware, 11 stain options and eight glass options.
Beyond the windows’ luxury design, we like the range of energy-saving features that elevate performance, proving Loewen isn’t just about style. The company uses several sealing and glazing techniques to help regulate your home’s temperature. Loewen is certified by the U.S. Green Building Council, which focuses on sustainable products and manufacturing.

What we don’t like about Loewen is its prices. The company is exceptionally more expensive than many popular window brands due to its premium materials and craftsmanship. You won’t find any budget-friendly windows here. This brand is for you if you’re willing to pay for architectural features.
Loewen also isn’t right for you if you want a full-service installer. Loewen only manufactures its windows; it doesn’t install them. You must go through the company’s dealer network or hire your contractor for window installation.

Customer thoughts
We’re happy to see that Loewen has an A+ rating on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) site, but finding customer feedback for the company online is not easy. We found no customer reviews for Loewen on BBB, Trustpilot, Google or Best Company.
We did find some reviews on Houzz and noticed a common theme of seal failure. Several customers reported air leakage, and a few cited issues with water leaks. One customer, Ginger, commented, “The double-hung lets in a ton of cold air in Winter- and we have several of these. I have to buy the temporary winter caulk for the windows that costs a ton of money.”
Justin M. reported, “All the windows are leaking around the seals – a few of them I can actually see daylight.”
We found customers who are happy with their windows’ performance years after installation, however, leading us to wonder if these leakage issues have more to do with improper installation than window quality.
BJ Prendergast wrote, “Our home is 20 years old and is completely kitted out in huge Loewen windows and multiple doors. We face the oncoming west coast storms from a hillside and we have never had a leak or any broken hardware. These windows are the best we’ve ever had (9 houses and counting..), and I would recommend them to anyone. The exterior cladding is still perfect, the interior fir is perfect and the seals are all fine. Never a problem.”

Loewen manufactures two window lines and five window types, fewer than the average window brand.

What materials does Loewen use?
Loewen also doesn’t offer as many material options as some brands, but what it does offer is top-of-the-line wood.
Window frames
You won’t find any fiberglass or budget-conscious vinyl window choices in Loewen’s range. You’ll have your pick of beautiful, hardy oak, mahogany or fir woods. Cherry, alder, walnut and cedar are also available upon request. These are tougher, stronger woods than the softer options many manufacturers offer, such as pine, so they’re more weather-resistant and longer-lasting. Aluminum cladding increases each window’s durability.
Window panels
Loewen makes double- and triple-pane window options. While double-pane windows are standard, triple-pane windows provide more insulation. This allows for less air leakage and better temperature control.
Energy efficiency
The brand implements many energy-efficiency features used by other companies. Loewen fills window spacing with nontoxic argon gas for added insulation. It also triple-glazes glass and applies low-emissivity glazing to enhance thermal performance and keep UV rays from fading walls, floors and furniture.
How much do Loewen’s windows cost?
You’ll need to go through a Loewen dealer to get a quote for the windows you’re interested in, but we can tell from customer reviews to expect high prices. One customer mentioned spending $3,000 on a single window. We briefly spoke with a Loewen dealer in our area and learned that a double-hung window from the brand costs nearly $1,000 before any elevated customizations.
Does Loewen offer financing options?
Loewen doesn’t offer financing options, but the dealer you choose to install your windows may. Many dealers offer payment plans and work with banks to finance through home equity or similar loans if you’re replacing many windows at once. Ask your dealer or contractor about financing options upfront, and don’t be afraid to talk with a few dealers about their payment options to get the best deal.
What is the installation process with Loewen?
Because you’ll go through a dealer in your area for your window installation, we can’t guarantee what your experience will be. A typical installation process goes as follows:
- Site preparation: On your scheduled installation date, an installation crew will arrive and lay down drop cloths to protect your floors and furniture.
- Window removal: The crew will remove your old windows and inspect the area for damage. If damage is found in the walls or along the window casing, the team will repair it before proceeding.
- Installation and sealing: Your installers will put in your new windows, seal them tightly and replace the window trim.
- Quality assurance: Your site manager will check that the team installed the windows correctly and that all features work properly.
- Cleanup: The crew will clean the windows and installation area and dispose of your old windows.
What are Loewen’s warranty options?
Loewen metal-clad products come with a 20-year limited warranty on wood, glass and paint. While a 20-year warranty is typical in the windows industry, we expected a longer, more comprehensive warranty, considering the brand’s premium materials and devotion to superior workmanship.
Remember that you won’t get a labor warranty from Loewen. You’ll need to get that coverage through your installer.
Final take: Loewen’s beautiful wood windows come at a cost
Loewen’s commitment to high-quality craftsmanship and beautifully designed windows is clear, but since there aren’t many customer reviews online to speak to performance and customer service, we can’t gauge if the brand’s quality is worth its high window costs.
