All-new Corvette to be revealed in January, out in Q3

Fred Meier, USA TODAY
Each generation of Covette has gotten its own revised version of the car's Crossed Flags logo. Here is the design for the coming C7 -- seventh-generation Corvette.

Chevrolet said today that it will unveil the highly anticipated C7 -- the seventh-generation Corvette -- Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at an event ahead of the Detroit Auto Show that begins that week.

The all-new 2014 'Vette then will begin production in third-quarter after a six-month shutdown of the Bowling Green, Ky., plant to retool. Because of the shutdown, Chevy said the cutoff for guaranteed orders for the current C6 Corvette is the end of this month.

How new is the all-new Corvette? Chevy says only two minor parts carry over. "With the new Corvette, we set out to build a world-challenging sports car with design, refinement, efficiency and driver engagement that is second to none. The result is a truly all-new Corvette," said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer, in a statement. "There are only two carryover parts from the C6 used in the C7 – the cabin air filter and the rear latch for the removable roof panel."

Among the parts not carried over is the current Cross-Flags logo. As is 'Vette tradition, a new version of the logo will grace the new generation -- enlarge photo above to see it and the past six. The logo was the only image Chevy gave out today -- no teaser shots of the car, not even one of those half-a-taillight shot.

But Chevy will be teasing you with tidbits of information and video via social media before the big reveal: www.one13thirteen.com is the C7's web site, there is fan conversation and tracking of announcements at facebook.com/corvette and on Twitter @Chevrolet(#Corvette and there will be what Chevy says are exclusive C7 updates if you also follow the Twitter hashtag #one13thirteen.

Chevy also says that a few committed 'Vette fans will be admitted, for a price, to the January media event, with proceeds going to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. You can contact Roc Linkov (roc@corvettemuseum.com) for details.
