Jay-Z helms star-studded Barclays Center opening

USATODAY
Jay-Z performs the inaugural concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Friday.

What did Jay-Z do last night? Oh, nothing much, just opened the Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets, of which he's a minority owner.

Is there anything he doesn't do?

Rihanna, Magic Johnson, Al Roker, Star Jones, Tyson Chandler, New York Giants star Victor Cruz and Nets head coach Avery Johnson joined in on the fun, which also included the opening of the exclusive 40/40 club at the arena. (Jay's wife Beyonce was nowhere in sight.)

Rihanna embraced pajama chic for the Barclays opening.

Jay-Z, who grew up in the public housing just minutes from the arena, kicked off the show with Where I'm From and Brooklyn Go Hard, according to EW. He played other hits including Big Pimpin, 99 Problems and Empire State of Mind for the 18,000 strong crowd. The Associated Press reports that he also performed a tribute to one of Brooklyn's icons: the late Notorious B.I.G.

''Sing loud so he can hear you in heaven,'' said Jay-Z, who also held a moment of silence for the rapper, who was shot to death in 1997.

The concert was the first night of an eight-night run.
