John Cusack, Peter Gabriel share boombox flashback

USATODAY
Actor John Cusack passes the boom box to Peter Gabriel during his perfomance of the album 'So' at Hollywood Bowl on Saturday.

It was a Lloyd Dobler moment — John Cusack with a boombox!

It all happened on Saturday at Peter Gabriel's Hollywood Bowl concert. The singer got the crowd roaring when he brought Cusack to the stage to kick off his song In Your Eyes.

The song was prominently featured in the '80s cult classic film Say Anything, which, of course, featured Cusack as Dobler, who held the boombox over his head to serenade his girlfriend. On Saturday, Cusack gave the boombox to Gabriel, who held it up for the audience. The actor then took a bow and exited.

The film's director, Cameron Crowe, happened to be in the audience and tweeted about it: "Peter Gabriel and John Cusack on stage together at the Hollywood Bowl tonight. Won't forget that... ever."

Gabriel is on a North American tour and the 25th-anniversary box set of So is available Oct. 23.
