Cute car cake from wedding amuses Prince William

USATODAY
Prince William enjoys a cake re-creation of the car he and his bride drove after their wedding in 2011.

Royals can inspire some wacky creativity in the British: Check out the cute cake that surprised and amused Prince William at a charity dinner in London Wednesday night.

British media report he did a double-take when he spotted the cake, featuring a sugary re-enactment of the unforgettable scene after his wedding last year when he and his bride, the former Kate Middleton, drove away from Buckingham Palace and down The Mall in a classic, blue Aston Martin — borrowed from dad Prince Charles — with "Just Wed" plates.

The blue car on top of the white square cake had re-creations of the couple in all their wedding finery, with William in the driver's seat on the right, of course.

The cake was in the lobby of the hotel where William was attending a dinner (the duchess was not there) in aid of the St. Giles Trust, a charity that works to help people in trouble with the law from re-offending. William is a patron of the trust.

Claudia Newberry, of Kent, made the cake to be auctioned for the charity. She told the Daily Telegraph it was a vanilla cake with raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream, and only three components of the cake are not edible – the windscreen, Kate's veil and the wires holding on the balloons.
