Our culture does not lack for tales of girls in captivity. From “Room” to "Mare of Easttown" – not to mention the actual news stories and accompanying glut of true crime – we’ve seen plenty of media about this subcategory of female victims. I can guarantee, though, that you’ve never read a book quite like Carolyn Ferrell’s first novel, “Dear Miss Metropolitan” (Henry Holt and Co., 432 pp., ★★★ out of four).
