Oprah Winfrey couldnât get enough of the baby talk when she caught up with Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday, gushing about her best friend Gayle Kingâs grandson.
Winfrey shared a story about Kingâs grandson, Luca Lynn Miller, during her appearance on DeGeneresâ eponymous talk show. Miller is the son of Kingâs 36-year-old daughter Kirby Bumpus, who shares the 8-month-old with husband Virgil Miller. Winfrey told DeGeneres that King is trying to get her grandson, which Winfrey called the âthe cutest baby on Earth,â to call King a special nickname.
ââGaia,â which means Mother Earth,â Winfrey said of the nickname. âI say, âYouâre not Mother Earth. Youâre not mother of the earth; youâre just one grandmother.â
Although Winfrey said âbabies decide for themselves what they wanna call you,â the talk show icon admitted sheâs trying to coax Luca to call Winfrey by her own nickname.
âEvery time I see the baby, which I see the baby more than (King) does, every time we see the baby, Iâm like âO, O, Auntie O,â â Winfrey said.

Winfrey added: âItâs so easy to say, âAuntie O.' So, Iâm thinking the baby is going to say âAuntie Oâ before the baby goes âGaia,â â to which DeGeneres replied, âI think youâre correct.â
'Over the moon':Gayle King is 'officially a grandmother' after daughter welcomes son Luca
King previously said sheâs âwanted to be a grandmother for a long timeâ and that sheâs âover the moonâ with her first grandchild.
âIt's really something when you see your own child become a parent,â said King while announcing Lucaâs birth on âCBS This Morningâ in September. âI am so nuts about him.â

Baby Luca also has a special connection with "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," as King announced her daughter's pregnancy on the show in April 2021, revealing she'd âbeen keeping a list of baby names since even before she got married!â
King also told Oprah Daily in September that she's always wanted her daughter's firstborn to be a boy.
âI would have been thrilled either way, but I was so excited when I found out it was a boy because as the oldest of four girls, I always wanted a big brother for myself," King said at the time.
