Selena's family received her Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award ahead of 63rd annual ceremony

Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was one of a handful of artists to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards Sunday.

Abraham Quintanilla, Selena's father and music manager, formally received the posthumous award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Feb. 22.

Her father posted on Facebook he received the award of Feb. 22. "I want to thank the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for Recognizing SELENA," Quintanilla said.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes musicians who have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.

The Queen of Tejano music joins fellow lifetime achievement award honorees Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Lionel Hampton, Marilyn Horne, Salt-N-Pepa and Talking Heads. Ed Cherney, Benny Golson and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds were honored with the Trustees Award, and Daniel Weiss is the Technical Grammy Award recipient. 

Selena won a Grammy for best Mexican-American album in 1994 for her album "Live!," making her the first female Tejano artist to do so.

Originally scheduled for Jan. 31, the music ceremony was rescheduled due to rising cases of COVID-19.

As other ceremonies have been this past year, the Grammy Awards were held in a mostly virtual setup Sunday on CBS, with different performances streaming live across the nation.

Swift became the first female singer to win album of the year three times – taking this year's honor with "Folklore" – and Beyoncé set a new record for most wins by a female artist and most wins by a singer, male or female, at the ceremony hosted by Trevor Noah of "The Daily Show."

Selena's life and legacy was remember in "Selena: The Series," which premiered on Netflix in December as one of the most popular TV shows on the streaming service in the U.S. The two-part drama charts the life and rise of Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla-Pérez (Christian Serratos), who was murdered by her fan club president, Yolanda Saldívar (Natasha Perez), in 1995 when she was just 23.
