LeBron James will take it easy early

USATODAY
USA forward LeBron James celebrates after winning the gold in the men's basketball final against Spain in the London 2012 Olympic Games.

LeBron James opened up the throttle to win an NBA Championship and an Olympic gold medal. Now he'll be downshifting.

The Miami Heat superstar said he'll be the cautious guy in training camp.

James has no worries about the season but plans to have a full tank when the Heat open the season Oct. 30 against Boston.

The team plays Atlanta in a preseason game Sunday but James tells Michael Wallace of ESPN that "I don't even know if I'll play much at all in that game."

He's confident the team "will hold me back" if he tries to do too much.

The 10 months of non-stop basketball has given James one advantage he believes.

"I'm in better shape right now than I've been, because I've played so much basketball," he said. Usually it takes me a week, a week-and-a-half of camp to kind of get back into it. But at the same time, I've still got to be cautious. I've played a lot of basketall and I've got to be cautious and not allow myself to be out there too much. We'll monitor that."

Now, getting fit for a championship ring, is probably something James will never grow tired of. (Thanks to Slam Magazine for the video assist)
