Red Sox fan helps Yankees? (video)

A controversial home run involving a fan at Yankee Stadium brought back memories of Jeffrey Maier's infamous incident during the 1996 postseason.

It occurred in the second inning of Monday's Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees game.

The Yankees' Russell Martin hit a home run (at-bat begins at 0:54 mark) to right-center field when it appears a fan may have reached over the fence to catch the ball.

Umpires ended up reviewing the play and upheld the home run. Replays could not determine whether the fan reached over the field of play.

But upon further review, the offender was wearing a Boston Red Sox jersey and helped the evil empire.

Martin was one of four Yankee hitters to go deep during the nine-run second inning that propeled New York to clinch a postseason spot.
