Robert Marve plays for Purdue despite torn ACL

Robert Marve is in at quarterback for Purdue despite being less than a month removed from yet another ACL injury, the third of his college career.

The first came in the summer of 2009, shortly after Marve transferred into Purdue from Miami (Fla.), where he had lost his tenuous grasp on the starting job to teammate Jacory Harris.

The second ACL tear came four games into the 2010 season; Marve had started all four games before suffering the injury. He returned in time for the 2011 season, though he spent the year as Purdue's backup option behind Caleb TerBush.

But after TerBush struggled over the first three quarters of this afternoon's game against Michigan, Purdue turned to Marve for a spark. And despite the knee injury, the sixth-year senior scrambled for a six-yard gain shortly after being inserted into the lineup, moving Purdue inside the Michigan 30-yard line.

Marve's drive ended in a field goal, cutting Michigan's lead to 31-13 with 12:46 left in the fourth quarter. Can Marve lead the Boilermakers to a comeback – on one leg, no less?
