Even Tim Tebow's statue more popular at Florida

Even Tim Tebow's statue at Florida is more popular than other Gators.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Oh, how they still love Tim Tebow back at his alma mater. The Heisman Statue Poll proves it.

On the west side of Ben Hall Griffin Stadium, three bronze statues of former Florida quarterbacks stand tall. From the left, Tebow, Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel .Heisman winners all, and all available for fans to pose in front of before or after the game.

Guess who gets the most business?

``Probably 90% Tebow,'' said Christopher Shannon, who takes photographs for anyone who wants to order them. ``Danny Wuerffel and Steve Spurrier are about equal.''

So we took a 20-minute survey. Fifty-three people posed for pictures by either Shannon or their own camera. Fifty went for Tebow, and nine even Tebowed for their shot. Three posed with Wuerffel, and five opted for both Tebow and the head ball coach.

The presidential candidates could only hope for such poll numbers.

Children, students, adults, all took their turn. LSU fans, too. Even a dozen LSU students in purple.

Tiger fans posing with a Florida legend? Is Baton Rouge weeping?

``I respect him since he graduated,'' senior Chelsea Ducell said. ``Once he couldn't beat us anymore.''

For the record: Spurrier's statue is passing; Wuerffel is setting up to pass, and Tebow is running with the ball tucked under his left arm. That's not the most common likeness for a quarterback, but Tebow did that a lot as a Gator, and he said he didn't mind at the unveiling in the spring of 2011.

``That's fine,''he said then. ``We can't all be throwing.''
