Washington Redskins' Billy Cundiff misses another field goal

Jim Corbett, USA TODAY Sports
Billy Cundiff has struggled this season for the Redskins.

LANDOVER, Md. — It appears kicker Billy Cundiff's loop around the Baltimore/Washington Beltway is all but over.

The goat from January's AFC Championship Game — Cundiff missed a game-tying field goal that would have forced overtime in the Baltimore Ravens' loss to the New England Patriots — failed to convert his fourth three-point try in his past five attempts Sunday for the Washington Redskins.

Cundiff's latest miss came from 31 yards in the second quarter of a game the Redskins led 7-0 over the unbeaten Atlanta Falcons.

Cundiff connected from 23 yards in the third quarter to give Washington a 10-7 lead.

But Cundiff has missed half of his 12 field-goal opportunities this season, though he may have saved his job by hitting the game-winner against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week.

But coach Mike Shanahan could be seeking Cundiff's replacement this week, and he'll surely audition potential replacements. The Redskins opted for Cundiff over last season's kicker, Graham Gano, and veteran Neil Rackers this summer. Both are currently unemployed.
